December 21, 2009

Its just another holiday

Right, so its almost the end of December and for me, its been kinda slow.

Yeah of course I got things to do and stuff like that, I'm not slacking off wasting my time everyday like what most people are doing. (You know its true, no need to argue about it)

Christmas is only 3 days away, and honestly this year I'm not in such a mood to celebrate. I have my reasons, I rather not say, but yeah. And besides, PMR results are out on Christmas eve, and I guess for a lot of us, Christmas is pretty much ruined just thinking about D-Day. Why didn't we just stick to the 28th to receive the results. I'm sure many people would be happier about that.

Bah,

anyway its time to look at the bright side.

This week I've been pretty busy. There's an animation seminar at Technology Park. Conducted by 2 people who did Toy Story 2. Its pretty cool, and those are into animation should go for the one on the 28th. =P Click here for more details.

Eugene Goh is working for my mom now, so he's pretty much based in the house doing stuffs. Its kinda nice having him around. Can talk. He works, I work.

So yeah,

life's pretty normal. Goood luck to everyone taking their results on the 24th. And Merry Christmas everyone. =)

The beginning of the end.

Hello people! Short post just to be updated.

No the beginning of the end is NOT about 2o12, I don't really believe in all that. Everyone believes differently right? Some think we will all die of from a disease. The Mayans believed that there would be a 48 hour solar eclipse and so on. I don't believe in the end of the world. Like I said, everyone believes differently. But no one knows whats gonna happen right? Maybe the world will end, maybe it won't. So we should all leave that behind, and live life. The perfect solution.

Right so I said the beginning of the end is not about 2012, and already I wrote a paragraph 'bout it. *slaps self*

ANYWAY,
the beginning of the end, is about 2009. Yup... its December people!! The last month of the year, (like no one knows??). And I just wanna say, that this year, has been a really great year. It had it ups and downs, lefts and rights. All those small matters that we were so tense about, we can laugh about now.

Who knows what will happen this December? in 25 days, a lot can happen, right?
So technically, this post should be titled, The beginning of the beginning of the end right? 'Cause its not New Years yet, let alone PMR results aren't out yet. Ok I might not be making sense right now... haha...

Post conclusion:
Have a happy December!
Hah, now THAT makes more sense. =D

How did I get in? Hahaha, connections-mah.

So anyway the book review was about Mitch Albom's book, For One More Day.

And the book review itself? Click here.

Memang-lah.

Just recently I was going through some PMR workbooks. I was sorting them out into piles so like one pile would be "To recylce", "To give to next year Form 3's", "Donate to library".

The donate to library part was sucessful ahaha... I donated 11 PMR reference books, including 2 dictionaries. The recycle part was long bye bye and probably all the books have turned into another piece of paper for another book. =D

I still have the "To give to next year Form 3's" pile, and I was looking through some of the answers provided in the books and I thought "Haha"

Story:

Shouldn't it be "needs" carbon dioxide?

It "supports" burning.

It can be renewable?? Then what is a confirmed renewable energy source?

Fine sand or find sand? Whatever the case, I found it.

Now we know why they wanna make the switch for Science and Maths to be taught in BM. =P

BTW

Congrats to my little cousin brother who achieved 6As and 1B for UPSR!!
So proud of you! =D

Celebrate the times come on!!!!

Yeahhh people!!
PMR is finally over!!

I'm happy, and I know everyone else is... so yeah. This post is a little late. Like my usual self, I'm busy. =P

And my laptop just crashed 2 days ago, the blue screen appeared. Hopefully all my memory isn't wiped out... or else I'll loose all my pictures and my beloved Photoshop. ='(

I must have got a virus from (someones) pendrive in the JU room on Wednesday. 'Cause after I plugged (someones) pendrive in, my com lagged. =O Then when I went home I turned my com on again and the blue screen came up. SO SADLAH. Hopefully the JU PC's don't get infected as well. or else we loose EVERYTHING. That would be a complete DISASTER. =O The editorial board is working hard this year, I know. 'Cause I see. =D

Plans for PMR???

I got stuff to do. I might even start a new blog but also keep this one. We'll see. My nieghbour asked me to teach him Form 1 stuff... he wants to get an early start. I could do that. Its only Form 1. =D And my mom found this Standard 1 Malay boy who goes to Puay Chai 2... and if the mom wants, I'll be teaching him Standard 1 Mandarin. LOL. Can you imagine that?? Me, teach Mandarin? Boy will my family be so proud of me, I always did so poorly in Mandarin, and now I'm could teaching it?? Heh.

I would LOVE to teach English... That would be so fun! I could use ExtraDiction to teach, besides things like Scrabble and Boggle, stuff like that. ExtraDiction is good 'cause there's a Junior Version as well as a Adult Version. Here's the Junior board.

The numbers are points and the exclamation marks are chances. It would take a while to explain, but go to the website!! www.extradiction.com

And if you want a demo on how to play, come over and I'lll teach you!!

Second Last Day of PMR and woohoo boohoo??

YES!! Like the title says so... 2nd last day of PMR!!!

It all seems to fly by so fast.

One minute we're innocent Form 1's still finding ourselves in the teenage world, then we're naive Form 2's, and then we struggle with text books, past year papers... all sorts of nonsense in Form 3, and then in another blink of an eye, we're sitting in the examination hall taking PMR.

sigh

And tomorrow will be our last day... in a way I'm kinda sad, 'cause its no more lower secondary. Eh... you get my point right?

Never mind... I just don't know what to say. Happy last day of PMR everyone!

Second Day of PMR and alamak

Today was the second day of PMR.

Today's subjects were
English paper 1
English paper 2
Science paper 1
Science paper 2

2 out of the 3 A's I need to get into Science stream. =O

Ok, lets start from the beginning. Yesterday everyone predicted that the plot would come out for BM 2 bahagian D. But everyone was wrong.

Today hardy anyone studied English and no one at all made a prediction on what would come out for literature in Section C paper 2 English... wonder why? Maybe cause everyone learned their lesson from yesterday that predictions are not reliable, or maybe no one bothered because during English literature classes, our teacher could ask ANYTHING. =D (they asked about friendship. the best story and people to choose would have to be Dr Jekyll and Mr Utterson =O )

Then we had Science paper 1, which was very easy. Everyone thought so.

But then after an hour lunch break we went to take Science paper 2. Everyone was had a full belly, but the weather WAS HOT. And the paper was HARD. Everyone who took the paper thought it was hard. What to do?? No one was prepared anyway for the questions. And trust me, if everyone thought it was hard, then you have a chance to get an A for Science. Keep your hopes high, 'cause if everyone gets a bad score they will lower down the grade needed to get an A.

Good luck for Geo tomorrow.

First Day of PMR and a lesson

Today was the first day of PMR.

Yes, funny I should be blogging about it, especially this around this time. PMR isn't over yet, the first day was just over an hour ago for us. But today all of us learned a very important lesson.

Today's papers were BM 1 and BM 2. Then at 2 something the Melayu students had Agama.
Ok, after BM 1, we had a 20 min break. The school provided us with some food and a drink, (thank you PIBG), and while eating everyone was reading komsas notes. The prediction was that for Bahagian D, (novel question) they would ask us for the plot of the story Meniti Kaca( Form 1), Pahlawan Pasir Salak (Form 2), or Panas Salju (Form 3). Why did we predict they would ask the plot? Because we looked through the past year papers, they asked moral values before, theme, main characters... but the only thing left that wasn't asked was the plot. And thats what everyone thought, they will ask us to write the plot for either one of the stories. Little did we know how wrong we were.

Its like our English novel question. They could ask ANYTHING. Moral value, plot, main characters, synopsis etc etc... are the most common we see in revision books. But in PMR, ANYTHING could come out. "Name one character you would like to be friends with", "If you could change the ending of the novel what would it be", "Which character did you find the most interesting" etc etc. And no revision book can write down all the questions PMR could come out with.

Same thing here with the BM paper, its just that everyone was so sure that the plot would come out. One person would say so and that person will tell another person, and then the whole Form 3 starts reading about the plot, and only the plot.

So in the exam class, we were pretty confident about the novel question, and when we looked through the paper we realised... "uhh ohh..."

Instead of coming out with what everyone thought it would be, they asked something else. See... they can ask anything. Make you read something and then ask another. They asked only for the Form 2 novel, Pahlawan Pasir Salak, and thats the least favourite novel among the forms. The question was, give 3 examples for this moral value. And honestly, I didnt read the Form 2 novel... because, yes, I was so sure that they were gonna ask for the plot as well... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. How wrong we were.... how wrong we were.... sigh.

So now... the important lesson of today is

READ ALL THE NOVELS FOR FORM 1, FORM 2, FORM 3 AND WHEN SOMEONE MAKES A PREDICTION FOR WHATS GONNA COME OUT FOR THE NOVEL QUESTION... THINK TWICE BEFORE BELIEVING THEM.

Yes... 25 more days till PMR!!

Honestly I don't think I'm THAT prepared... and there's only 25 more days... =P
After that its freedom! So off I go to study!

And I probably don't think I'll blog until PMR is finally over. So till then people!

Motivational? I don't think so.

Every Form 3 student has it. Its stuck on our desks on the top left. But what is it?

Its a piece of paper, with our exam scores stuck on it. So what is this supposed to do?

Its supposed to motivate us to do better in PMR. On it is written our scores for the past... 3 exams? And on the bottom, is the score they predict us to get in PMR for every subject. Its the score they PREDICT. And thats not really nice, 'cause I was predicted 1A, 3B's, 2C's and 1E. How sad. They think I'll get 1A, and 1E. @.@ What if I have higher expectations for myself? I want to get into Science Stream, and with a predicted 1A, I'm not gonna get in.

So this thing is here for us to see everyday when we walk into class, come back from classes, recess... etc. And one thing is, I can't see a thing on it. Thats why some of the subjects are highlighted in green in the top pic... and below, shows the desk view.

Its just a random piece of paper! I can't see a thing written on it! You call that motivational???

Here's my example of motivational.

We all should make one. Its more eye-pleasing than a white paper with numbers and their predictions of your scores. Use our favorite colours, designs and such and what we ourselves want to achieve for PMR. If your friends laugh if you write "I want 8 A's in PMR" but your actually a below-average student, its ok!! That means, those who laugh at you are either scared to write down "I want 8A's" as well, or they have no goals in life. Now paste this paper with YOUR goals on the top left of your table. Clear, big, bright letters. Something we can actually see every time we walk into class from recess, toilet, etc.

Now compare that with the one we all got. Which one seems more motivational to you?

Endings and Beginnings, Beginnings and Endings

Ahh... a typical Monday at school. The day starts off with morning assembly. But today's assembly is a little different, 'cause backstage somewhere SMKBU's Choral Speaking team is getting ready and they are really practicing hard.

The Choral Speaking team wouldn't need to be so tense if
- they practiced more on Thursday. (The conductor gets full blame for lack of practice.)
- and if all the members showed up. Who gets the blame??

And so here starts the story. As told by conductor Rhonwyn Hagedorn, 3 Amanah.

When the bell rang an anouncement was made for all Choral Speakers to gather in the canteen. 5 minutes later I asked Julian to make another one, but no one else showed up except those who were already in the canteen. Head count: 21 Choral Speaking members out of 32 that went for competition. Where did the missing ones go I did not know. Some had an excusable excuse for not coming. But the rest....?

Since majority of the absent ones had solo parts, we had to find substitutes from those who came. It took a while to sort out. Lots of hoo haa here and there and questions about the movements and lines... In the end we got that sorted out... and then full practice. Thanks to long speeches on stage, we got to practice a full round and 2/3 of another round.

Then it was show time. When I walked out there were some comments like "ooo mat selleh". Translated: There's the JU mat salleh who takes pics during assembly... but now she's without her camera nor her JU tag, so whats going on now?" Skip the junk.

When we entered stage I noticed a mistake.

The 3 long lines are row one, two and three. Line one is the shortest.
The light blue dot is me.
The orang square are where the teachers are sitting.
And the white, yes, the students.

Now what went wrong.

The red dot is Brian. Now Brian's spot is on the right, as seen in this picture.

But today when we were on stage, row one came out the wrong way and Brian ended up standing on the left, like in this pic.

The SMKBU people sitting down were a bit... annoying. But what can we do? They were giving comments like "Translate into BM, I can't understand" or "I can't hear anything!" And the solutions to cure those problems?

Solution to problem 1. Speak and read more English.

Solution to problem 2. Don't talk when we're reciting our script!!

Overall I think we did really well considering the small amount of students who showed up.

Students who showed up for competition. Exclude the Form 5 members and Simone who changed school last Friday. Now compare to the amount who showed up.

Taa daa... Big difference isn't it?

I'm so proud of those who still had the spirit for Choral Speaking and showed up. And I know Mr Eugene is proud of you guys as well. To those who didn't come without a reason..... My message to you...

"Haha"

It means something, that "haha" up there, you just gotta know what it means.

Message to all members:

Choral Speaking is about the team, and your small little flame of passion for Choral Speaking will make a big difference. It makes us as a team shine even brighter when we recite our script. A dead flame among us is noticable.

If there is another upcoming event that requests Choral Speaking, I hope that everyone has a small flame of passion.

But if no more events, this is the end of our Choral Speaking journey this year, an ending, but a bright new beginning next year when we go back for competition, high hopes of winning the top. But also knowing that we have won in our hearts, as a brightly lit team.

Inked

Yeah, inked. XD

Today I skipped BM class to take Ju pics. *evil laugh* It was fun... and I got to use Kim's camera... Wish I had a DSLR... its like No1 on my birthday/Christmas wishlist. And something that money can't buy, good PMR grades. XD Followed by a Vaio laptop and a acoustic plug-in guitar... =P Funny.

When I was younger like lets say 5, I would ask for lollipops and colouring books and kiddie stuff like that. Now its all stuff maybe 20X more the price of a colouring book. =P But of course, we can't have everything. So probably I'd get a colouring book for Christmas this year. Haha. XD

Anyway, after I came back to class I found Azim looking through my pencil case and using my permanent markers. (shh... don't tell the prefects I brought permanent markers to school.... XD) And then I guess he ran out of paper and ganged up with Paul to draw on my face. Yes... Draw on my face, with my markers. zzzz

I tried hiding under the table but Shahidan pushed me out. I thought he was my friend!!! XD Then Paul held my arms and Azim drwe lines on my face. The end result....

Left side

Right side

These were candid so no... I didn't know they were taken with my own camera. =P

And in other news,

This little guy I found in one of the sinks in school. He was drowing in water so I rescued him. XD
Shahidan freaked out when I brought him to class... Don't know why they're scared of bugs. This guy is harmless...!

But in the end I relieved Shahidan off a little of his fears and we named him Ringo Star... 'cause he's a "Bettle" XD. I wanted to name hin George Harrison but then Ringo Star seemed to suit better. He flew away after a while. Wonder why he didn't do that earlier...

New Semester

Holidays are over and a new semester begins. And its gonna be a hectic/fun/stressful/awesome/woohoo/omg/yeehaw/arrggghh/supercalafragalisticexpialadocious semester.

The first week is always one of the busiest 'cause we all gotta catch up on things we missed and have to finish doing that we didn't do during the holidays eg. Sejarah project. HA.

Its gettin' closer to PMR as well... and no I'm not looking forward to that... but after its done everything will be better. =D

And other than that... I guess most stuff will still be the same. =D

To all SMKBU people,

If your looking forward to the next holiday just remember its a few more months left and after that its a new year and we repeat everything once again! Haha.

Cough

I mean, everything is going to be ok. If you are stressed over problems just know that your not the only one ot there who is stressed. =P Remember, a locksmith would never manufacture a lock without a key, same goes that God won't create problems without solutions. =D

Happy not holidays! Welcome back to school everyone!

An honest post about Teachers Day '09

Yes I KNOW I haven't been blogging because, yes... I have been busy. And I still am but I'm just gonna blog anyway.

About 2 weeks ago we celebrated Teachers Day!! *yay* *claps*

And no I will not post any pics up but I will make a short description about Teachers Day. In fact, I could describe it in one word,
LAME
Why lame? Ha. There are many reasons why. Lets start from the morning.
Ok so everyone was happy. Then when the speeches came, yea the usual. Memang boring la. The teachers sang a song for us... and they were ok.... but there wasn't the feel in their singing. The looks on their faces were like "We were forced to do this thing," No smiles. Why humiliate yourself and sing infront of your students right? Lame.
Then the prefects gave out their goody bagos!! They looked nice this year, green and had "Teachers Day '09" printed on it. They gave away "mini Oscars" to each teacher. Lovingly drawn, cut and painted. Problem was there were supposed to have the teachers face on the little Oscar, but it was due to some reasons that there was no picture. Some of the male teachers mistakenly got a girl Oscar... muahahahaha.... Lame.
Moving on we got to STONE for about an hour 'cause the teachers were playing games, which were lame. They even played "pass the ball". OMG. Thats one way to feel young... but it was ridiculous. Lame.
Then everyone went inside the hall for performances! There was only one word to describe the performance, and yes, the word is, Lame. The lower 6 did a few songs. One guy sang "Hungry Heart" and that was.... funny. Then there was another band who did Taylor Swifts "Love Story" which for me I thought was stupid. How many teachers do you think know the song "Love Story" let alone know who Taylor Swift is??!?! Yeah, and they said these songs were dedicated to the teachers. Pfftt. The upper 6 were lame 'cause they weren't.. serious. They would stop singing or they would go out of pitch. At least they sang more sensible songs like "Think of me" from Phantom of The Opera and "Memory" from the musical Cats.
The prefects singing was also pretty stupid. They were looking AT the microphone and NOT the teachers. Some out of pitch, some doing actions and some not and some didn't know what they were doing.
When it was announced the "last performance" I was annoyed 'cause I was supposed to do a drum circle, and maybe less than 5 min before I was supposed to do it my circle got cancelled 'cause there was no time left! What the **** man. It took me a week to get the drums and then you tell me that you don't wanna do the circle?? This was worse than lame. It was... mean. Like... oh look no time. Cancel the circle. Rhonwyn won't mind.
I feel so used. I wanted to do the circle because its with the teachers. And its the TEACHERS who get to play. Not sit there and watch dumb performances "dedicated" to the teachers.
Yeesh. So now you know why teachers day was so lame... and so stupid.
Performances, students and so called lack of time.
And I know some people might hate me for this post, especially the prefects. You know who you are.
But as the title says, its an honest post.
